Garfield goes high tech. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. Sony has enlisted the help of Garfield creator Jim Davis to show off the capabilities of its VAIO Pen Tablet PC. It's a high performance computer with a flat screen that tilts... .and lets you write or draw on it... .and navigate Windows without the need for a keyboard or mouse. Davis calls it a breakthrough for artists of all kinds... .

"Being able to work directly on the surface of the computer means everything. That's the big breakthrough. Being able to do it in an intuitive way means an awful lot. Also, there's a lot of power, there's a lot of technology behind it, but you don't see it when you work on the screen. I don't have to know anything about computers. I love the ease of working on it. It just feels right. I have something to touch."

While he still draws the every day Garfield comic strips on paper... .Davis says the switch is coming. The pressure sensitive stylus... .allows a wide variety of pencil or brush strokes. The VAIO Pen Tablet's design is another plus... .

"I can work in any position that's comfortable. This has this pedestal and I can work in a flat position, I can work up in an easel position, I even pick the computer up and set it in my lap. Basically, I use it like a sketchpad and there's not much difference at all."
