Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.        One of my favorite apps of the year….one that I discovered through a posting by a friend…the photographer, author and educator Rick Sammon.   It’s called Merlin…from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology where Alli Smith is the project coordinator.   You can look up birds by description…but what are really cool are the other tools in the Merlin app…

“So photo ID you just take a picture of the bird and it will tell you what it is and sound ID is exactly what it sounds like.  You just go outside and be quiet and open up the app on your phone and turn on the microphone and it will listen to the birds that are around you and identify what it hears.”
