Fuji Pushing Consumers to Go Digital

Techstination feature for Thursday, May 10, 2001

Creating consumer comfort with digital pictures. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. There's nothing like hands-on experience. And that's the approach FujiFilm is taking to generating more consumer interest in taking digital pictures. It has launched a Picture of America Tour. An eighteen wheeler that serves as an interactive information center that will be making the rounds over the next year...

"It's a 52 week mobile marketing effort. We're going to go from coast to coast, hitting about 45 to 50 markets, go around the country to de-mystify digital technology to the consumers."

FujiFilm's Eric Thorng. What consumers will find is that taking digital pictures isn't much different from snapping photos with any camera... but they don't need film... and with most models... can view the results in seconds. And that's only the start...

" You take a photo and you can print it, but also you have the ability to store it in different mediums as well as share it via the Internet, email and on the Web site."

Fuji is snapping portraits and pictures along the way that will become part of a digital mosaic at the end of the year. Among the new camera models Fuji is showing off... is the FinePix 6800...

"We introduced a webcam within the camera itself as well as a dictation device and also has the ability to record audio and video."

The 3.3 megapixel camera carries a suggested price of 899 dollars. Other models start at 249. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin... Bloomberg Radio.
