Techstination feature for Wednesday, June 6, 2001

When it comes to the Internet, more and more people have the need for speed. Bloomberg Bootcamp, a report on today's technology. If you're used to a fast Internet connection at the office, connecting at home on that old 56K modem can be pretty frustrating. But it can also be frustrating trying to find out what broadband options are available. So author and Internet entrepreneur Bruce Judson saw an opportunity... and created a Web site called SpeedAnywhere.com to fill a void... .

"And that void was that both businesses and consumers were hearing about high speed services... people were talking about DSL for business, even T1s which is the next step up in terms of a connection, that those prices were coming down dramatically. Software that can accelerate the speed of your connection. Most people don't know that there are software and there are services and in some cases it can increase that speed by two hundred percent. "

While there is some valuable information on the site, it is not unbiased. Speed Anywhere openly proclaims that it receives a fee from companies which it recommends, chiefly it would seem, from Telocity DSL. There is a link to an unbiased site called GetConnected.com... which allows you to compare the various services available where you live side by side. Since they vary significantly and DSL prices have been rising... it's best to compare before you buy.
