Bose Wave/PC

Techstination feature for Friday, June 15, 2001

Bose ties its Wave Radio... .to the PC. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The Bose Corporation has a rich history of producing rich sound in theatres, homes, cars... .and even the space shuttle. Now it has developed a clever link between an Internet connected PC and its popular Wave Radio. Senior product manager Santiago Carvajal...

"What we did is we added a new connector in the back to the Wave Radio that has both audio and communications to the computer"

The software that comes with the Wave/PC Radio integrates the two... allowing you to listen to CDs, digital MP3 music, live radio over the Internet or over the air using a credit card sized remote control... .

"Even for something as simple as AM and FM radio, Wave/PC does a lot of very neat things. For example, when I install the product, I type in the zip code of where I live, Wave/PC goes out to the Internet and retrieves all the radio stations that are available for me in my area."

It can show signal strengths as well. The unit replaces your old PC speakers and the star of the show... as usual with Bose... is the quality of the sound... . (sound) One drawback to the system is... .you'll need to have the Wave/PC and the computer next to each other. A home network connection would have been nice. The price may not be music to your ears either... about 450 dollars at Bose.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
