At a time when government backing for electric vehicles is being pulled back, the Ford Motor Company is looking to expand the growth and popularity. It is pumping two billion dollars into a plant in Louisville…creating a new Universal EV Platform. CEO Jim Farley says the first vehicle to use it will be a mid-sized electric pickup….that comfortably seats five and will arrive in 2027 with a starting price of about thirty thousand dollars. The battery system in the vehicle will also be capable of powering a home for days in emergency situations. Ford is calling it a Model T Moment….with the new platform enabling the development of a family of affordable electric vehicles. And along with it will come nearly four thousand new jobs.
