Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.   A new approach to AI.   That is what Yann LeCun says is needed.  He was the Chief AI Scientist at Meta for 12 years, leaving in January to help create Advanced Machine Intelligence or AMI, which he points out means friend in French.   He serves as the executive chairman.    LeCun says the approach being taken by all of the prevalent LLMs or large language models can’t lead to true human level intelligence.    His research now is focused on World models…using Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture.   In simple terms it learns the way a child learns and is able to do things….think robots for instance….without specific training.   LLMs , which it seems everyone is using today,  have their place.  But AMI aims to create intelligent systems that understand the real world.   Stay tuned.
