Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.        Music, day dreaming and the impact of songs.   Princeton University Professor of Music Elizabeth Margulis, director of the Music Cognition Lab, is the author of a new book titled Transported- The Everyday Magic of Musical Daydreams.    She says music can bring memories back to life in ways images, food or scents typically don’t..

“If you look at the kinds of memories people describe, music tends to elicit memories that are really sensorially rich, full of detail and immersiveness.  So It tends to really bring you back to the specific sights, senses, you know whole experience that you had when you first experienced something.”

But why is that?   What is special about music?   Some of the science here is pretty spooky.  More on that in my next report.
