A more powerful Palm. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. If you are in the market for a handheld computer using the Palm operating system... the buying decision gets more difficult all of the time. Palm is creating a subsidiary to market its operating system... ..which is already in devices made by Sony, Handspring and Kyocera. Another player... HandEra... is on the market with a better Palm than Palm. HandEra CEO Michael Downey...

"We use what's called a quarter VGA screen and that means that we have a higher resolution that most of the other Palm powered devices that are out there. The screen basically is 240 pixels by 320 pixels. It gives better resolution for smaller fonts as well as larger fonts. It also allows you to display things that are graphic in nature in much better detail. The best example of that may be maps."

The larger screen and the ability to rotate it... is especially useful for viewing documents or spreadsheets. Another big difference in the HandEra... .are the two expansion slots... for SD memory and CompactFlash...

"And the advantage of that is that it offers some just incredibly large data storage capability and on device backup. With the CF slot, using the IBM Microdrive for example, you can store up to one gigabyte of data in the device... which no other device can come close to."
