Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. For lots of parents…they are questions that aren’t always easy to answer. When to adjust safety seats for toddlers and children? At the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration…there’s a new campaign titled…They Grow..You Check. NHTSA’s Laura Dunn..many parents look to move children too soon…
“For example, for our youngest passengers, we want to make sure that parents are keeping their kids rear facing for as long as possible because it protects their head, neck and spinal cord so much.”
At GM, meanwhile, lead engineer for child passenger safety Suzanne Johansson says…
“It’s very important to know that children from a newborn age up to at least two years old should be rear facing.”
And she says older children should remain in booster seats …until at least they are four feet nine inches.
