Bankers campaign to combat scammers

Techstination feature for Wednesday, October 21, 2026

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.   Nearly three in four adults in this country have been faced with attempted scams.   The estimated losses are mounting…reaching 68 billion dollars according to Gallup….and victims span all ages.  The American Bankers Association has another campaign running …called Banks Never Ask That…to raise awareness and Executive VP for Risk, Fraud and Cybersecurity Paul Benda says bad guys are increasingly making use of AI…

“So just like you use AI everyday to maybe write an email a little better or write a letter a little better, criminals are using that to make better emails,  they’re using that to fake Web sites, they’re even using that to clone people’s voices, called deep fakes.   So they’ll deep fake your child’s voice, cause they can find it right on one of the social media posts, they’ll call you up and they’ll pretend to be your child in distress.”

Be aware and be wary and find more info at BanksNeverAskThat.com.
