Print Shop... Turns 17

Techstination feature for Friday, October 12, 2001

One of the oldest software packages around for families is still going strong. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The year was 1984 when Print Shop first became available... allowing those first home computer users to create some pretty crude looking greeting cards on their dot matrix printers. Now... .having sold 10 million units over 17 years, Broderbund is out with version 12 of Print Shop Deluxe... .

"The new features this year are really tying into what people are calling digital or multimedia features. We've added a really robust set of integrated photo editing tools. The other thing is there's a way to seamlessly connect to the Web. We have a Web site that's just dedicated to offering consumers more projects, more images, things like that. The other new features are, we've added an integrated calendar creator software product into the program to help customers, again, just have more options when it comes to creating calendars."

Broderbund's Marjorie DeGraca. There are more full featured stand alone photo editing packages... ..and stand alone greeting card programs as well. But for many consumers... the capabilities of Print Shop are more than adequate. And even with all of its versatility... .

"Still, 85 percent of the people that use Print Shop Deluxe use it to build greeting cards. So greeting cards, for some reason, is still the most popular application with this product."

The deluxe version sells for under 50 dollars. A pro version aimed at businesses is under 70. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
