Techstination feature for Tuesday, October 30, 2001

When it comes to your music collection... you can take it with you. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It looks like a portable CD player... but the latest version of the Nomad Jukebox from Creative Labs can store up to 340 hours of your favorite music... .(sound) Creative's portable audio brand manager Kevin Brangan... says the new 20 gigabyte Nomad Jukebox... ..is more than triple the capacity of the original introduced just 11 months ago. The company has taken its cue from its customers...

"Six gigs was good and they liked many of the features that we had on the original Jukebox but the bottom line is they just wanted more storage. And we implemented some firmware releases to back up data."

Accessories let users carry that massive amount of music in their cars... or plug the Jukebox into a home stereo system... .

"That's a pretty expansive library by anybody's standards. And to be able to compile a playlist from Tchaikovsky to Cheap Trick to anywhere in between, people really do enjoy that flexibility."

A line in jack allows you to record onto the hard drive in a wav format. Rival Archos makes a smaller capacity device that encodes MP3s on the fly. Creative says it will add that feature in future versions. The new 20 gigabyte model sells for under four hundred dollars. You can find more information at nomadworld.com.
