A year after the election confusion, where is all the new technology? Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The outcry was loud and clear following the presidential election a year ago that took weeks to decide. There had to be a better way. But change doesn't come fast or easy... .

"Last November, the American public realized that elections are neither perfect nor free. And since that time there's been a great investigation of the way that we vote."

James Adler is the President and CEO of Votehere... which creates election system software... that would let people vote on all kinds of computer devices... in polling places... kiosks... or from anywhere via the Internet. While change has come slow so far... Adler says a number of states are looking to implement new technology in time for the congressional races next year. Congress is pushing for a demonstration project at least... that would allow overseas troops to vote electronically ...

"Military ballots and overseas ballots really have an opportunity to be treated fairly if cast on the Internet."

And that ... says Adler... would be the first step towards allowing all voters to participate online... the way many can vote by mail today... .especially on the west coast...

"It's going to move, probably I think, from west to east, as we move forward. So I could see widespread use probably in the next few years."

Adler expects to see a significant percentage of people voting online... by the next Presidential election in 2004. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
