The best of what's new. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Popular Science magazine is out with its 14th annual best of what's new edition. It includes the top innovations of the last year in lots of different categories. For instance... says editor Suzanne Kantra... there is the implantable AbioCor artificial heart... and a vehicle crash protection system developed by Mercedes Benz...

"It can sense when you're about to get into an accident and what it does is it actually moves out the side panels of the door and the front and rear bumpers to absorb more of that impact energy so that if you got into an accident, you would be that much more protected."

Not to be out done... .BMW made the list with a newly engineered skateboard... that believe it or not sells for about 500 dollars.

"They actually borrowed some the suspension technology from the BMW 5 series."

The Italian fashion house Corpo Nove has created a half titanium alloy shirt. Run a hair dryer over it... .and wrinkles vanish instantly. Yours for just four thousand dollars. Another top innovation comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture... which has created edible food wrap...

"This is a bio-degradable wrap that they've added flavoring to. So you can have I think strawberry is one of them, apricot. So you can wrap your duck breast in, say, raspberry flavored food wrap and pop it in the oven and bake it... and the wrap itself becomes the glaze for the duck."

That's just a taste of The Best of What's New. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
