The new networked home. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It started with devices like Replay and Tivo, that allowed you to record TV programs on a hard drive... and with services like Napster that got a lot of people interested in downloading music on their PCs. Now a new generation of devices is coming that will let you share that digital video and audio all around the house. Web TV founder Steve Perlman, for instance, has a new company called Moxi Digital... that is coming out with something called the Moxi Media Center...

"And what it is is a replacement for your cable or satellite set top box in your home. It has a big disk drive in it so you can record shows, pause, rewind... all the kinds of things you'd like to do. It also has a built in DVD CD player so you can play DVDs and you can put in a CD and you can also record the CDs and provide a juke box capability. Not only does it work in your living room, but actually it networks to other TVs throughout your house."

Just add what the company calls the media center extension. Motorola is another company getting into the act, partnering with Simple Devices on technology it calls SimpleFi... .

"The idea behind it was to take MP3s that are associated typically with the PC, the home PC, and play those at a place separate from the actual PC itself, at the home stereo where people want to hear that content."
