"Our DVD player is first and foremost a high end DVD player. It also plays CD discs, it plays MP3 discs, it plays karaoke discs, it plays Kodak picture CD and any disc you can imagine that has JPEG files on it, it also connects to the Internet and so you can browse the Internet and send email directly on your TV, but mainly what it does also, which no other player does, it lets you play what we call ViMagazine.
Pietri, who came to Vialta from Disney and ABC, says the DVD based magazine will offer wide range of music and video content. The ViDVD player includes a keyboard for Web browsing... and a menu of sites that are suitable for viewing on a TV screen. You can surf to other sites... but much of the text may be hard to read. The current version of the player includes a modem... but not a broadband connection. There are inputs for two microphones for the karaoke functions. The ViDVD sells for about three hundred dollars at Vialta.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
