Activision Cashes in on Spider-Man

A big video game maker cashes in on the web... .Spider-Man's web. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. There is no escaping the marketing efforts surrounding the Spider-Man movie. (sound) For Activision, that's good news. It has released computer and video games based on the movie on five different platforms... .

"Playstation2, Xbox, Nintendo Gamecube, the PC and Gameboy Advance. As far as we can tell, that's the first time five platforms have launched simultaneously with a movie release."

Activision's Executive VP of Global Publishing, Kathy Vrabeck. The company has had a long term license for Spider-Man titles... and is expecting blockbuster sales...

"The Spider-Man movie game allows consumers to essentially re-live the movie experience. The game does include voice over talent of Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe and Bruce Campbell. (sound) The game includes likenesses of Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe and the story line follows the movie and includes some ancillary levels of villains to make sure that we're providing a robust game play experience. But it does follow the movie line."

Fans of Kirsten Dunst may not be happy, but love stories aren't as important in video games as they are in the movies. The game will be released in Europe in June... again to coincide with the movie. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
