More Finding Online Personals Attractive

Techstination feature for Friday, May 31, 2002

More people are finding online personals attractive. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Not so very long ago, it was unusual to hear about a couple who met on the Internet. That isn't the case anymore. More and more people are using the Net to find their ticket to love and romance... .through Ticketmaster owned Match.com... and many others. Yahoo! is crediting its growing online personals business with a jump in first quarter revenues. Katie Mitic is the general manager of the service...

"We see the market of online dating growing dramatically this year. Part of the reason that it's growing is that users are very excited about the opportunity the Internet can provide to meet lots of people, to have control over what they communicate to those people, how they communicate with those people and the availability. It's 24 by 7."

Services like Yahoo! Personals and Match.com may tell you it's free to register... but that would be like the telephone company telling you you can have a phone for free. If you want to reach out and touch someone... it will cost you. Yahoo! charges 19.95 a month or 89.95 a year. And as for any discomfort people might have about meeting this way... .Mitic says...

"We see more and more people turning to the Internet for more and more things. Everything from managing their finances to buying their plane tickets and this seems like a natural thing to eventually migrate to."

Yahoo! is falling in love with the idea fast... since it added fees for the services last fall. It recently announced plans to drop its 4.95 a month fee for enhanced personal ads... .and will offer all subscribers the ability to post multiple pictures and customized backgrounds.
