Viewing digital photos on your TV. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Visioneer, a company best known over the years for its line of one touch scanners that let you digitize photos or documents, has a new device on the market called the PhotoPort TV 100. The idea is to let you pop the memory card out of a digital camera... slide it into the device that plugs into the video input of your TV... .and watch an instant slide show in your family room. No PC required. Visioneer CEO Murray Dennis... says the PhotoPort has some key advantages over its competition...

"The only two products I'm familiar with, one is from Microsoft, the other one is from Iomega. Microsoft built basically a PC based solution where you have to do all your editing right on the PC, then you bring it over to the TV. Naturally that's how Microsoft thinks. In the case of Iomega, they built a 299 dollar drive mechanism for viewing but no editing on the TV. Here you get instantly viewing, editing and sharing on the TV, no PC required, for 99 dollars.

The price includes a wireless remote control and keyboard. A couple of drawbacks... to note... digital pictures don't look as sharp as they do on a computer monitor or in print... no matter how high the original resolution. And the PhotoPort TV works only with CompactFlash and SmartMedia memory cards... .so if your digital camera uses Secure Digital or Memory Stick ... .forget it.
